Frenkie de Jong revealed that he is aware there were differing viewpoints regarding his future at Barcelona. Recently, the Dutch midfielder committed to a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2029.

In an interview with El País, De Jong shared his thoughts on the situation:

“There was a time when certain individuals within the organization considered selling me to generate funds. I believe that was either in the summer of 2023 or 2022; I can’t recall the exact year.”

He confidently asserted, “I have always been clear about my desire to remain at Barcelona and have consistently felt fulfilled playing here.”

Although De Jong was considered a player who might move during the transfer period, he stated his intentions were unwavering: “I was determined to stay, and I believed that, as long as I maintained my fitness, I would get to play. When you are under contract and wish to stay, you simply do so. That’s why I never felt anxious about it.”
