Cameroon Stunned as Christian Kofane Refuses World Cup Qualifier Call

Christian Kofane has shockingly refused two invitations to join the Cameroon national team despite his rapid rise in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen.

The 19-year-old striker, one of the brightest young talents in Cameroonian football, has impressed this season with an assist in five league appearances and a goal in the Champions League.

Many fans expected him to feature in Marc Brys’ squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, but his name was missing from the list.

Cameroon supporters hoped Kofane would boost the Indomitable Lions’ attack alongside debutant Karl Etta Eyong of Levante.

However, coach Marc Brys revealed that the forward declined two separate call ups.

“We called him up twice, and he refused both times. It’s a shame because he’s a very good player. He’s talented and very strong,” Brys explained.

The revelation surprised fans who assumed the coach had left Kofane out despite his strong club form.

According to reports from Camfoot, the striker wants to focus on cementing his place at Leverkusen before committing to the national team.

His decision sparked criticism among supporters, who believe national duty should take priority.

Many see early call ups as a major honour, as shown in other countries where young stars embrace the chance to represent their nations.

The situation is a blow for Cameroon, who hoped to rely on Kofane’s talent in two crucial qualifiers.

His absence could weaken their chances in the race to reach the World Cup.

Kofane’s choice highlights a growing concern in African football, where some emerging players prioritise club ambitions over national commitments, a trend that frustrates fans eager to see their best talents wear national colours.
