Chelsea’s Romeo Lavia Sidelined for a Month Due to Quadriceps Injury

Romeo Lavia warming up before a Champions League match against Ajax

Chelsea Midfielder’s Latest Setback

Chelsea’s young midfielder, Romeo Lavia, is expected to be sidelined for a month after sustaining a quadriceps injury. This marks yet another chapter in the youngster’s difficult injury journey since joining the club.

Lavia, 21, faced his latest setback just four minutes into the Champions League match against Qarabag, which ended in a 2-2 draw. This injury was particularly disappointing as it was only his fourth start since recovering from a prior injury sustained during the Club World Cup.

Previous Struggles and Injuries

Since his transfer from Southampton to Chelsea for £53 million in 2023 — after declining an offer from Liverpool — Lavia has been dogged by a series of injuries. To date, he has made 29 appearances but has missed an alarming 88 matches across two and a half seasons with the team.

Throughout this period, various physical issues — including hamstring and thigh injuries — have limited his playtime, preventing him from completing a full 90 minutes in any match. Chelsea’s management has attempted to minimize his injury risks by restricting his game time to one match per week.

Upcoming Matches Affected

Lavia’s current condition means he will miss several key matches, including fixtures against Burnley, Barcelona, Arsenal, Leeds, Bournemouth, and Atalanta.

Despite these challenges, Chelsea has managed to maintain a strong position in the Premier League and currently stands third, following a 3-0 victory over Wolves last Saturday.
