Palmer Injures Toe After Accident
Chelsea’s Cole Palmer faces an additional week on the sidelines due to a toe fracture sustained when he accidentally stubbed it on a door last Wednesday evening.
Injury Details
The English forward had been anticipating a return to first-team training this week after being unavailable for two months due to a groin issue. However, the injury to a small toe on his left foot will prolong his absence.
Palmer is expected to miss several key matches, including this Saturday’s Premier League encounter at Burnley, the upcoming Champions League clash against Barcelona, and next week’s home fixture against Arsenal.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca commented, “He surely won’t be available for Saturday, Barcelona, or Arsenal. Unfortunately, he had an incident at home where he hurt his toe. It’s not a significant issue, but he will be out for at least another week.”
Impact on Team
Palmer’s last appearance was during Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on September 20. Since then, the team has participated in 11 matches across various competitions, winning eight and losing two, placing them third in the Premier League standings.
Maresca expressed his belief in Palmer’s importance, stating, “I feel the team is better when Cole is on the pitch. We all want him back. But we must find solutions when he’s unavailable. The team is performing well, but Cole’s presence amplifies our capabilities.”
For the upcoming trip to Turf Moor, Chelsea will have players such as Enzo Fernandez, Pedro Neto, and Benoit Badiashile available. However, Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi remain as part of the ‘bomb squad,’ although Maresca highlighted that nothing has changed regarding their statuses, even though Disasi has been training with the Under-21s during the international break.
Palmer’s Performance
Palmer has played only four matches this season and has not been on the field since his early substitution at Old Trafford. Despite his absence, Chelsea has managed to secure victories, with contributions from players like Estevao Willian, Facundo Buonanotte, Alejandro Garnacho, Pedro Neto, Jamie Gittens, and Joao Pedro during his time out.
