Leaburn’s Encounter with Cherki

Charlton Athletic forward Miles Leaburn has shared his memories of training alongside Manchester City’s Rayan Cherki, during an unexpected session at Chelsea.

At the time, Leaburn was part of Chelsea’s youth academy, and Cherki, then just 12 years old, had arrived in London to try out without Lyon’s knowledge.

Cherki’s Impressive Skills

During this training experience, Leaburn noted Cherki’s remarkable talent.

“He came over from France and was performing rainbow flicks during practice,” Leaburn recounted. “He was on another level compared to everyone else — truly exceptional. That was one of the most memorable moments throughout my eight years at Chelsea.”

Reflecting on the experience, Leaburn added, “I was in awe, thinking, ‘Wow, this is amazing.’ He actually turned down an offer to join Chelsea because it seemed too easy for him!”
