Carragher Urges Liverpool to Pursue Gifted La Liga Winger Despite Doubts

Carragher tells Liverpool to sign talented La Liga winger: I know it's not going to happen

Liverpool Legend Urges Club to Pursue Nico Williams

Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher has advised the team to consider signing Nico Williams, the talented winger from Athletic Club.

During the previous summer, Barcelona expressed interest in bringing Nico Williams from Athletic Club by indicating their readiness to activate his release clause. Instead, Williams chose to extend his commitment with the Spanish club, signing a decade-long contract, showcasing his preference to remain where he is.

New Contract and Release Clause

With his new agreement, Williams’ release clause was raised to roughly €90 million, which could be a significant financial hurdle for many teams. Despite this, Carragher believes Liverpool should pursue the young player, emphasizing the admiration he garners in the football community.

“Absolutely. I would pursue the one everyone desires. Nico (Williams) is an exceptional talent. He netted the opening goal against England in the Euro final, and Spain rightfully emerged victorious. I understand he’s committed to his club for 10 years, yet I still fantasize about seeing him in a Liverpool jersey. I realize it’s unlikely, but it’s nice to dream,” he stated.

Williams’ Rise at Athletic Club

The 23-year-old talent has developed significantly at Bilbao, where his elder brother Inaki also plays. Williams made his first appearance for the club at the age of 18 in April 2021.

Regarded as one of the top wingers globally, his dedication to Athletic Club remains unwavering. Coupled with Liverpool’s substantial financial commitments this summer and his elevated transfer fee, acquiring him seems nearly unattainable.
