PSG’s Luis Campos Explains Gigio Donnarumma’s Transfer to Manchester City
PSG’s sporting director, Luis Campos, has shed light on the club’s decision to transfer goalkeeper Gigio Donnarumma to Manchester City.
After negotiations for a new contract with Donnarumma broke down, PSG opted to complete the sale on transfer deadline day.
Details of the Transfer Decision
Campos shared insights during an interview with RMC, stating, “The club’s interests take precedence over any individual. This is a shift we’ve seen at PSG. Regarding Donnarumma, several factors contributed to this conclusion. When he demands a salary reflecting his previous contract at PSG, rather than aligning it with our current standards…”
He continued, “Our strategy emphasizes merit: players earn more based on their performance and contributions. We took our time to address the situation with Gigio. We had to explore other solutions since we couldn’t come to a consensus with him.”
Commitment to Club Policy
Campos further emphasized, “The stability of the club will not waver because of a player seeking special treatment. We prioritize protecting PSG. Our goal is always to perform well and secure victories. With this philosophy, it’s clear that the coach does not favor any player based on their past achievements or name recognition. A player’s history alone won’t guarantee a spot in the starting lineup at PSG. That’s our approach.”
