Cameroonian forward Bryan Mbeumo stole the spotlight at Old Trafford, netting twice as Manchester United powered to a thrilling 4-2 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.
It was a statement performance from the 26-year-old African star, whose brace helped United end their poor run of results against Brighton, a side that had beaten them in six of their previous seven league meetings.
Under Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim, United have found renewed rhythm, following up last week’s impressive win at Anfield with another commanding display that lifted them to fourth place on the league table.
Matheus Cunha opened the scoring with a fine strike from distance before Casemiro doubled the lead with a deflected effort.
Mbeumo then got in on the act after the break, coolly finishing a flowing counterattack to make it 3-0.
Brighton threatened a comeback through Danny Welbeck’s free-kick and a late header from teenager Charalampos Kostoulas, but Mbeumo struck again in added time to secure United’s third straight win, and reaffirm his growing influence as one of Africa’s standout forwards in England.
The result also marked Amorim’s best run since taking charge last November, with United finally breaking their Old Trafford jinx against the Seagulls.
