Cameroon Coach Kameni Praises Onana for His Smart Move to Trabzonspor

Cameroon coach Kameni: Onana made right choice in Trabzonspor

Carlos Kameni, the goalkeeping coach for the Cameroon national team, has expressed his satisfaction with Andre Onana’s recent transfer to Trabzonspor.

Onana has officially joined Trabzonspor on a loan deal from Manchester United and had a memorable first match on Sunday, where he initially made a mistake but rebounded to earn the man-of-the-match honor despite the loss to Fenerbahce.

Kameni commented on his compatriot, stating: “It’s a positive move. Andre was facing difficulties at Manchester United.

“Last season, he faced significant criticism, and this season, he had limited playing time (one cup match), leading to a general understanding that he would spend a lot of time either on the bench or in the stands.”

“I advised him that he was making the right decision. Playing regularly at a commendable club in a competitive league is far better than being a substitute at a prominent club in a major league, wouldn’t you agree?

“In Turkey, he will definitely attract attention, as he is a talented goalkeeper, but the pressure will likely be less intense compared to his time at Manchester United.”

Onana’s Potential for Future Opportunities

When asked if Onana could leverage his time at Trabzonspor as a stepping stone to a top European club, Kameni expressed confidence in this trajectory.

He also shared with Africa Foot, “Absolutely. He hasn’t lost his skills while at Manchester United.

“Like many elite athletes, he might have gone through a challenging phase for a few months. Andre Onana is highly professional and continues to be a dependable player; if he has a successful season in Turkey, there’s no doubt he will be sought after next summer.”
