A three-day CAF Safe Stadium Initiative workshop has wrapped up in Accra, marking another step in efforts to improve football security across the continent.
Held at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) headquarters, the programme brought together Safety and Security Officers from all 18 betPawa Premier League clubs, Regional Sports Police Commanders, and members of the GFA’s Safety and Security Committee.
Over the course of the training, participants engaged in practical sessions covering CAF’s safety regulations, stadium accreditation systems, access control, crowd management strategies, and security operations before, during, and after matches.
The closing session was attended by key football and security stakeholders, including GFA Executive Council member Eugene Noel Noble, General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo (Esq.), and COP Lydia Donkor, who chairs the GFA Safety and Security Committee.
They were joined by GHALCA Chairman and National Safety and Security Officer John Ansah, as well as club leaders such as Kennedy Boakye Ansah (Nations FC) and Delali Anku-Adiamah (Accra Hearts of Oak).
Representatives from Bibiani Gold Stars and Heart of Lions also participated.
The workshop was facilitated by CAF security experts Xololi Nokithula Vilakati from Eswatini and Sylvanus Obi from Nigeria, who guided participants through international best practices in football security.
At the end of the programme, certificates were presented to all attendees.
The CAF Safe Stadium Initiative forms part of a broader campaign to harmonise security standards across Africa, minimise risks at football grounds, and create safe environments for supporters, players, and officials alike.
