CAF Awards: Cape Verde’s Bubista Wins Coach Of The Year

Cape Verde coach Pedro Leitao Brito, better known as Bubista, has claimed the CAF Men’s Coach of the Year award on Wednesday night in Rabat, Morocco.

The ceremony took place at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P).

His recognition comes on the back of a stunning year in which he guided the Blue Sharks to their first-ever FIFA World Cup.

Cape Verde topped their qualification group ahead of Cameroon, sealing a dream ticket to the 2026 tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Bubista stood out in a strong field of nominees. Morocco U-20 coach Mohamed Ouahbi was considered a frontrunner after leading his side to the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup title, defeating Argentina 2-0 in the final.

Senior Morocco coach Walid Regragui was also in contention, having overseen a flawless year in 2025 as the Atlas Lions secured their World Cup qualification with a perfect record.

Despite Cape Verde missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Bubista’s success on the global stage proved decisive.
