Achraf Hakimi has been named the 2025 CAF Men’s Player of the Year, securing Africa’s top individual honour at the ceremony held in Rabat on Wednesday night.
The PSG full-back triumphed over Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah to claim the award.
His victory makes him the first Moroccan to win the title since Mustapha Hadji achieved the feat in 1998, ending a 27-year wait for the North African nation.
Hakimi’s outstanding year with Paris Saint-Germain played a decisive role in his success, as he contributed heavily to the club’s Champions League triumph and their march to the Club World Cup final.
He also helped PSG capture the Ligue 1 title, the Coupe de France and the UEFA Super Cup, rounding off one of the strongest seasons of his career.
His two closest rivals also entered the awards with impressive credentials. Salah delivered another remarkable Premier League campaign for Liverpool, finishing with 29 goals, 18 assists and helping the Reds reclaim the league title while also guiding Egypt to World Cup qualification.
Osimhen remained one of the continent’s most lethal finishers, scoring 37 goals in 41 matches for Galatasaray and carrying that form into the new season.
