CAF Announces Three-Man Shortlist For Player Of The Year Prize

Leading the charge for the Player of the Year top prize are Mohamed Salah (Egypt/Liverpool), Achraf Hakimi (Morocco/Paris Saint-Germain) and Victor Osimhen (Nigeria/Galatasaray) at the upcoming 2025 CAF Awards.

CAF confirmed the trio after months of evaluation, with each nominee arriving on the final list through a different path.

Salah’s output for Liverpool with his 29-goal Premier League Golden Boot campaign ensured his name remained impossible to ignore despite a dip in form this season.

Hakimi enters the race on the back of a historic year with Paris Saint-Germain, where the Moroccan defender played a pivotal role in their long-awaited UEFA Champions League triumph and their run to the expanded Club World Cup final.

Osimhen, meanwhile, has been in form for Galatasaray and the Nigerian national team, including leading the Champions League’s top scorer chart.

In the Women’s Player of the Year category, the shortlist features Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy of Morocco, joined by Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade.

The Young Player of the Year race includes Abdellah Ouzane, Othmane Maama, and South Africa’s Tylon Smith, while the national team category pits Cape Verde, Morocco, and Morocco U-20 against each other.

Goalkeeper of the Year contenders are Munir Mohamedi, Yassine Bonou, and Ronwen Williams, and the interclub prize will be decided between Fiston Mayele, Mohamed Chibi, and Oussama Lamlioui.

Coach of the Year nominees include Bubista, Mohamed Ouahbi, and Walid Regragui, with Pyramids, RS Berkane, and Mamelodi Sundowns eyeing the Club of the Year accolade.

CAF will crown the winner on Wednesday, November 19 in Rabat.
