Manchester United’s Treble champion Nicky Butt has expressed his strong feelings regarding the club’s search for a new manager following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal.

One of the frontrunners being mentioned to take over the managerial position is Enzo Maresca, who recently stepped down from his role at Chelsea.

United executives Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox have a past connection with Maresca from their time at Manchester City, leading to speculation about his potential hire.

Butt’s Firm Stance

In a discussion on The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast, Butt stated, “If Maresca were to join us – I have a lot of respect for him as a coach – given the context, I would return my season tickets.”

He continued, “It wouldn’t make sense for me to defend Manchester United’s philosophy and identity while advocating for Maresca, someone with past ties to Manchester City. With Berrada and Wilcox involved, it’s contradictory.”

“But regardless of Maresca’s achievements, I can’t overlook the fact that I am a Manchester United supporter. The thought of an ex-City figure at our helm is unacceptable to me.”
