Controversy Surrounds Offside Call in Borussia Mönchengladbach Match
Striker’s Goal Disallowed Due to Technology Error
On Saturday, the opening goal scored by Haris Tabakovic of Borussia Mönchengladbach was overturned after the automatic offside system mistakenly judged him to be offside. This incident mirrored previous occurrences in St. Pauli’s last two matches at home against Bayer Leverkusen and Hoffenheim.
Acknowledgment of Mistake by German FA
The German Football Association (DFB) has publicly conceded that an error was made in this instance. FSCP President Göttlich expressed his dissatisfaction following the incident, though he acknowledged that none of the three occurrences resulted in an unjust outcome for his team. He highlighted that German clubs finance this technology through their contributions to the association.
Official Statement from DFB
In a statement shared on Sky Germany, the DFB explained, “During the review of the offside call in the 15th minute, the semi-automatic offside technology unfortunately produced an incorrect outcome. This was due to an offside line being drawn on the wrong defender.”
Göttlich’s Reaction
“It’s certainly frustrating,” Göttlich remarked during a press conference. “We invest in this technology, and when it fails to deliver, one should be entitled to a refund at some point. It’s quite absurd that we cannot get the technological resources we are financing to function correctly.”
