Brighton Chairman Contemplates Manchester United’s Interest in Carlos Baleba
Tony Bloom Comments on Transfer Speculation
Brighton’s chairman, Tony Bloom, has revealed that Manchester United expressed interest in acquiring Carlos Baleba but backed off after being told the player was not available for transfer this summer.
The management at United, along with their coach Ruben Amorim, identified Baleba as an ideal candidate to rejuvenate their midfield during a crucial rebuilding phase following a challenging season for the club.
High Valuation and Firm Stance
Reports indicate that Brighton is seeking over £100 million for the talented Cameroonian international. However, Bloom has firmly stated that Baleba is not on the market. In a discussion with The Argus, he elaborated on the quickly dismissed transfer talks.
“I wouldn’t categorize Baleba as a transfer saga. Manchester United did show interest, and we communicated that he wasn’t for sale this summer, which led them to withdraw their pursuit,” Bloom remarked.
He further emphasized, “We’ve dealt with much larger transfer issues in the past. Carlos Baleba has made significant progress and is a crucial player for our club. I’m thrilled that he is with us for this season.”
Future Prospects for Baleba
The 21-year-old midfielder has opted to continue with Brighton, where he remains contracted until 2028. Nevertheless, his future may not lie with The Seagulls, especially if they fail to secure a spot in European competitions, which Baleba is likely to pursue as more opportunities arise.
