Brennan Johnson to Determine Future Following Agreement with Crystal Palace

Johnson’s Potential Move to Crystal Palace

Brennan Johnson is on the verge of making a decision regarding a transfer to Crystal Palace, as the south London team has finalized a £35 million agreement to acquire the Tottenham forward.

Reports on December 18 indicated that Palace was actively pursuing the Wales international but opted to hold off on an official approach until after the two teams met in a Premier League match.

Current Status of the Deal

Now that a deal is in place for Johnson to transfer within London, the 24-year-old has yet to confirm his interest in joining the Selhurst Park club.

There are plans for discussions about his future within the next 48 hours, especially given that other Premier League clubs are also expressing interest.

Bournemouth considers him a strong candidate to replace Antoine Semenyo if the Ghanaian forward departs in January.

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank mentioned that Johnson would be available for the upcoming match against Brentford on New Year’s Day, stating, “Brennan has been a top professional. He trained well today and is ready for the game in two days.”

The London club is also looking to bolster their attacking lineup, which could further limit Johnson’s playing time.

Tottenham’s Future Plans and Johnson’s Role

It has been indicated that Tottenham has shown interest in signing young talents like Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig and Savinho from Manchester City.

Recent disclosures from BBC Sport suggest that Tottenham is open to letting go of Johnson, who was their top scorer last season with 18 goals.

Frank commented on the club’s strategy, emphasizing the importance of knowing when to sell players effectively, akin to other leading football clubs.

He elaborated, “It’s not just about playing a certain way or creating the right culture; there are numerous factors we need to excel at to compete at the highest level, and part of that is mastering the art of selling.”

Johnson notably etched his legacy into Spurs’ history by netting the decisive goal in the Europa League final against Manchester United in Bilbao last May, marking the club’s first trophy in 17 years.

However, with the managerial shift to Frank, Johnson’s presence on the pitch has diminished. He has only started six Premier League matches this season and hasn’t registered a goal in the league since his two in the opening games.
