Breathtaking Liverpool Stat Unveils Arne Slots Major Weakness

Liverpool’s Current Struggles Under Arne Slot

Liverpool FC has not been performing at the level seen during last season’s Premier League dominance, apparent during Arne Slot’s second year in charge.

Last Season’s Glory

In Slot’s first season, the Reds triumphed in the Premier League, securing the title in late April with a significant ten-point lead over their closest rivals, Arsenal. The departure of Jürgen Klopp raised concerns among fans, but Slot quickly alleviated those worries with his impressive start.

Challenges in the Second Season

However, difficulties in Slot’s second season have been evident. Liverpool altered their usual transfer strategy, spending nearly £450 million on high-profile players over the summer. Unfortunately, this spending has not propelled them towards their previous successes.

Liverpool’s recent heavy loss to Manchester City before the international break highlighted ongoing issues. Currently, they find themselves eight points behind league leaders Arsenal, struggling to show signs of recovery.

The team has faced challenges with intensity and directness from opponents throughout the season, lacking the trademark energy they were known for in recent years. One notable statistic illustrates their decline.

Liverpool’s Pressing Struggles

Liverpool has built a reputation for their high-tempo play since Klopp revitalized the team in the mid-2010s. Slot’s appointment suggested a shift to a more strategic game plan, yet their intensity remained a cornerstone of success last season.

During the 2024-25 season, Liverpool averaged 177 presses per game in the Premier League. However, in the ongoing 2025-26 season, that average has dropped to just 141 presses, marking a 20.4% decrease.

This season’s pressing figures rank among the lowest in the league. Interestingly, Arsenal, who lead the table, average 147 presses, which is the second-lowest figure in the top tier.

Liverpool’s average reduction of 36 presses per match stands out, with only Crystal Palace experiencing a greater decrease. Crystal Palace has already bested Liverpool three times this season.

Given that high-intensity pressing has been integral to Liverpool’s achievements in the last decade, the reduction in their energy levels is concerning for both Slot and his coaching staff. A diminished pressure on the ball has made them more vulnerable to opposing teams, often allowing easy, direct passes behind their defense.

To salvage their season, the reigning champions must find ways to improve their pressing statistics.
