Brandt Shines as One of the Top Bundesliga Assist Providers Alongside BVB Stars

Julian Brandt’s Upcoming Departure from Borussia Dortmund

A Seven-Year Journey

Julian Brandt’s tenure with Borussia Dortmund is set to conclude in a matter of weeks. By that time, he will have dedicated seven years to BVB and, despite facing persistent criticism, has consistently delivered impressive statistics in terms of contributions to goals. His standing on the all-time Bundesliga assists list serves as a testament to his effectiveness.

Achievements and Milestones

Recently, Julian Brandt matched Mehmet Scholl’s total of 93 assists, thanks to his assist during BVB’s 2–1 victory over 1. FC Köln. Out of these, 36 assists were recorded while he played for Bayer Leverkusen, leaving him with an impressive 57 assists for Borussia. Notably, he achieved his 300th competitive match for the club during the recent weekend.

With a total of 93 assists, Brandt currently ranks 6th in the all-time Bundesliga rankings. It’s important to note that assists have been officially tracked only since the 1988/89 season, yet in the nearly 50 years since, only five players have surpassed Brandt’s contributions.

Pursuing the Leaders

Among those ahead of him is Zé Roberto, who has recorded 94 assists, a mark that Brandt could potentially equal or exceed before leaving BVB. Another notable figure is Andreas Möller, who accumulated 109 assists while spending substantial time at BVB, Schalke 04, and Eintracht Frankfurt.

In 3rd place is Marco Reus, who amassed 119 assists exclusively with Dortmund and Mönchengladbach. Franck Ribéry follows closely with 121 assists, but the all-time leader is Thomas Müller, who has set a remarkable record with 215 assists.

The Competition Continues

The remaining players in the top 15, as compiled by kicker, are predominantly associated with FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Following Scholl and Brandt in 6th place is still-active Joshua Kimmich, boasting 89 assists. Robert Lewandowski also achieved this total in his Bundesliga career, providing numerous assists for both FCB and BVB.

Additionally, four players find themselves tied for 10th place: Vincenzo Grifo, Mario Basler, Max Kruse, and Thomas Häßler, all with 81 assists. Häßler, while he did have a brief stint at Borussia Dortmund, is often remembered for a less successful time with the club.

Future Prospects

It remains a possibility that Julian Brandt could rise to 5th place in the upcoming season. However, whether he will continue to provide assists in the Bundesliga next season depends on his future after leaving Borussia Dortmund.
