Bournemouth Acquires Midfielder Toth for £10.4 Million

Transfer Deal Details

Bournemouth has officially secured the services of Hungarian midfielder Alex Toth from Ferencvaros for a fee of £10.4 million. The 20-year-old has signed a contract that lasts for five and a half years, which may include an additional £2.6 million in performance-related incentives for his former club, along with a 10% cut on any future transfer.

Several top clubs such as Benfica, Galatasaray, and Lazio were also reportedly interested in the midfielder, who has earned nine caps for Hungary.

“When AFC Bournemouth expressed their interest, I felt thrilled and delighted to be approaching a club in the Premier League, recognized as the best and most competitive league in the world,” Toth stated. He added, “The entire organization and its structure is impressive.”

Background on Toth’s Career

Toth has made all of his club appearances in Hungary and had a loan spell at Soroksar during the 2023-24 season. He debuted for Ferencvaros in December 2024 and has participated in 52 matches for the Hungarian champions, netting four goals.

“He comes from a club accustomed to competing at the highest level in Hungary while also playing in Europe, so we’re excited about what he can contribute to Bournemouth as he continues to evolve under the direction of our coach Andoni Iraola,” remarked Tiago Pinto, Bournemouth’s head of football operations.

With the signing of Toth, Bournemouth has now added three players during the January transfer window, following the arrivals of goalkeeper Fraser Forster and defender Ade Solanke.

Insights into Toth’s Playing Style

Expectations from the New Signing

According to Hungarian football specialist Bence Bocsak, Toth is versatile, capable of playing both as a box-to-box midfielder and in a holding role.

“He’s not your typical destroyer; rather, as a deep-lying playmaker, he can also advance into an attacking position as a number 10. He has proven effective in various roles for both Ferencvaros and the Hungarian national team against significant opponents like Portugal,” Bocsak explained.

He added that Toth has considerable experience due to his regular participation in Europa League football, indicating he is prepared for the jump to the Premier League.

His strong character earns praise from coaches and teammates alike. Toth, unlike prodigies such as Dominik Szoboszlai, took a gradual path to recognition, working tirelessly and embodying professionalism.

“His training under Robbie Keane at Ferencvaros has been pivotal for his growth. He brings great intensity and pressing ability, which align well with Andoni Iraola’s high-pressing style of play,” Bocsak concluded. Toth may find himself playing a key role in the Bournemouth squad, especially given the team’s tactical demands.
