Nmecha’s Missed Opportunity and BVB’s Comeback Victory
Nmecha’s Penalty Woes
Initially, Felix Nmecha sought to convert from what is widely regarded as the simplest scoring chance in football. Despite having a clear shot from the penalty spot in the 45th minute, he was unable to register a goal against HSV, sending his attempt wide of the target.
BVB’s Revival
Given his earlier miss, it was understandable that Nmecha did not take the subsequent penalty awarded to Borussia Dortmund later in the match. Instead, Ramy Bensebaini stepped up, displaying greater composure and successfully scoring to narrow the gap to 1:2. Shortly afterward, Dortmund found the equalizer from open play, shifting the momentum of the game.
Bensebaini Shines Again
Following two penalty decisions, BVB was awarded another for handball, and once more, Bensebaini took charge, successfully converting his attempt again. This goal clinched the victory after a lackluster first half for the team. His performance earned him a spot in the “Team of the Matchday,” a selection made by kicker that highlights the standout players from each matchday.
Multiple Standouts in Selection
Notably, alongside Ramy Bensebaini, five other players who scored two goals during the last matchday were also chosen for this honor.
Heroic Goalkeeping Performance
However, despite Bensebaini’s two goals, the accolade for man of the match went to Daniel Heuer Fernandez, the goalkeeper for HSV. He played a crucial role in keeping his team competitive throughout the match, particularly during the second half, as BVB bombarded the goal, preventing an even larger margin of defeat.
Bensebaini’s Recognition
For Bensebaini, this marks his second inclusion in the Team of the Matchday for the current season. Leading the team in call-ups, Karim Adeyemi has been recognized three times, while both Julian Ryerson and Yan Couto have also been honored twice. Other players like Maximilian Beier, Jobe Bellingham, Serhou Guirassy, and Felix Nmecha, who had a challenging match against HSV, along with Luca Reggiani, Marcel Sabitzer, Nico Schlotterbeck, and Niklas Süle, have each made the list once.
