Benin Coach Optimistic Despite Defeat to Burkina Faso in WAFU B U17 Opener

Benin began their WAFU B U17 campaign with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Burkina Faso, but head coach Da Silva Ibrahim has expressed confidence in his side’s potential despite the setback.
The young Squirrels created several chances during the match but failed to convert, leaving Burkina Faso to capitalise after a lapse in concentration in the second half.
“We could have settled this game in the first half with the opportunities we created but did not finish. That’s football. In the second half, we lost a bit of focus, which led to their goal. Unfortunately, we lacked the clarity needed to find an equaliser,” Ibrahim reflected in his post match press conference.
Despite the disappointment, the coach praised the performance levels of his players, particularly their technical quality.
“From a technical standpoint, the content of our game was really encouraging. The boys showed good ability both in possession and in their movement. Now, we must react strongly against Nigeria. We will prepare well to ensure we come in with the right mindset,” he added.
Benin’s next fixture against Nigeria will be crucial in determining their chances of progressing from the group stage of the ongoing WAFU B U17.
