Lopes, who aims to succeed Rui Costa as the head of Benfica, stated that he has been engaged in conversations with the City star for “a long time.”

“I am eager to bring him back,” he expressed in an interview with SAPO Portugal.

“I reiterate what I mentioned at the beginning of my campaign: under my leadership, he will return. I am not imposing any timelines. He is someone I hold in great esteem; he is a genuine supporter of Benfica.”
