De Jong Backs Yamal Following El Clasico Loss
Barcelona’s captain Frenkie de Jong has publicly supported teammate Lamine Yamal after their team’s defeat to Real Madrid over the weekend.
Yamal’s Pre-Match Comments
Prior to the much-anticipated El Clasico, the young Barca player expressed his feelings about Real Madrid, claiming they are “always stealing.” He later took to social media to post a message aimed at Los Merengues, asserting that he is not intimidated by them.
Post-Match Incident
After the match concluded, several Real Madrid players, including their captain Dani Carvajal, seemingly directed mocking gestures toward Yamal, which sparked some controversy.
De Jong’s Reaction
When asked about the altercation post-match, De Jong stated, “I didn’t catch the specifics of what happened as I was on the pitch and only noticed a large gathering of players and staff.” He expressed his belief that the reaction towards Yamal was overblown: “When the final whistle blew, many rushed towards Lamine. I think that’s a bit exaggerated. They should clarify with him.”
Furthermore, De Jong clarified Yamal’s intentions: “Lamine never claimed that they steal. He’s involved in the Kings League, where there are advantageous situations for him, but he never made a direct accusation.”
On the gestures made by Carvajal, De Jong suggested, “If you share a team with Lamine and you have an issue, it’s better to discuss it privately rather than make gestures on the field.”
