The Portuguese defender made his exit from Barcelona 18 months prior after a temporary transfer from Manchester City. Since the onset of the January transfer window, he has expressed a desire to leave Al-Hilal.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Spanish giants made a formal announcement confirming the transfer and reintroducing the defender to the club.

“It’s official: Joao Cancelo is back as a Barca player. FC Barcelona and Al Hilal Saudi FC have reached an agreement for the Portuguese full-back’s loan until the season concludes. He will don the number 2 jersey,” read the club’s statement.

The signing ceremony occurred at the club’s headquarters and was attended by key figures, including FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta, first vice-president Rafael Yuste, board member Joan Soler, and Football Area Director Anderson Luis de Souza (Deco), along with Cancelo’s family.

Barcelona has activated an emergency injury clause to utilize 80% of Andreas Christensen’s salary cap for a replacement, which is fulfilled by Cancelo’s signing.
