Barcelona’s Striker Prospects for Summer 2026

The array of potential striker targets for Barcelona is growing increasingly interesting as the summer of 2026 approaches.

Lewandowski’s Contract Situation

With Robert Lewandowski’s contract nearing its expiration, the club is actively contemplating its attacking lineup for the upcoming season.

Candidates Under Consideration

Early discussions have identified several players, including Harry Kane and Erling Haaland, with Dusan Vlahovic also emerging as a potential free agent target. Additionally, Julian Alvarez and Serhou Guirassy are now being linked with a move to Barcelona.

Long-Term Aspirations and Immediate Needs

While Haaland remains a coveted long-term option, there is a legitimate concern that Barcelona may not secure his services next summer due to circumstances surrounding Lewandowski’s departure. Kane could serve as a transitional player, should he choose to leave Bayern Munich. However, before making a decision, he will need to have discussions regarding his future with the German club. Currently, he is in phenomenal form, recently describing a match against Borussia Dortmund as one of the best performances of his career.

Interestingly, Kane’s inclination to stay at Bayern could shift the focus toward other strikers such as Vlahovic from Juventus, Alvarez from Atletico Madrid, and Guirassy from Borussia Dortmund.

Financial Implications of Potential Signs

Alvarez’s recruitment seems challenging due to substantial financial implications. The Argentine forward transferred to Atletico from Manchester City in 2024 for approximately £82 million, and that valuation has not diminished since.

Vlahovic presents an intriguing scenario as he could be signed on a free transfer, although Barcelona must grapple with significant contractual obligations and evaluate if he can be a reliable source of goals, considering his inconsistent performance at Juventus.

On the other hand, Guirassy showcases promise both financially and in terms of quality. Reports indicate that he could be acquired next summer for a set transfer fee of €50 million (around £43 million) by elite clubs, including Barcelona. His goal-scoring capabilities and eagerness to compete at a higher level could facilitate a potential transfer.

Prioritizing Existing Contracts

In the short term, Barcelona aims to extend an important contract. The club is focused on securing Ferran Torres’s future, intending to keep him beyond 2027 rather than pursuing new attacking signings during the January transfer window.

However, the likelihood of Lewandowski renewing his deal during this season appears slim, prompting Barcelona to earnestly consider their next steps.
