Barcelona and RFEF Engage in Heated Dispute Following Yamals Departure from Spain Squad
Medical Controversy Surrounds Lamine Yamal’s National Team Inclusion
This dispute has escalated beyond press-conference exchanges between Hansi Flick and Luis de la Fuente. It has now become a serious issue, raising questions about trust. As a result, Lamine Yamal will once again be unavailable for De la Fuente.
Barcelona’s Controversial Medical Decision
Barcelona, without informing the RFEF medical team and knowing the player’s commitment to the national side, carried out a medical procedure that requires a minimum recovery period of one week. The Federation learned about this only a few hours before the national team’s training session in Las Rozas.
Because of this intervention, the left winger, who had reported for duty, had to withdraw from the squad. He will miss the upcoming matches against Georgia and Turkey, which are important for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Official Statement from the Spanish Football Federation
The Medical Services of the RFEF want to express their concern after being informed at 13:47 on Monday, November 10, the same day the official training camp began, that player Lamine Yamal had undergone an invasive radiofrequency procedure to treat public discomfort earlier that morning.
This operation was carried out without notifying the national team medical staff, who only received the details through a report at 22:40 the previous night, recommending a rest period of 7 to 10 days.
In this situation, and prioritizing the player’s health, safety, and well-being, the Royal Spanish Football Federation has decided to release him from the current call-up.
We wish him a quick and full recovery.
