Atletico Madrid continued their impressive form in LaLiga, extending their unbeaten streak to ten matches with a solid 3-0 win against Sevilla at the Estadio Cívitas Metropolitano.
Lackluster Start
The match got off to a slow beginning, with neither side managing to create any significant chances. For the first 25 minutes, both teams failed to register a single shot on target, resulting in a rather uneventful opening.
Game Picks Up
The match came to life shortly before the half-hour mark when Álvaro Morata found space for a shot inside the box, but his effort was well saved by Sevilla’s goalkeeper, Odysseas Vlachodimos.
Atletico grew in confidence and almost broke the deadlock in the 37th minute when Ángel Correa’s close-range volley struck the post after a sharp pass from Morata. Just before half-time, Correa missed another excellent chance as Vlachodimos denied the Argentine forward in a one-on-one situation, keeping the score level at the interval.
Turning Point
The second half started slowly but changed around the hour mark when the referee awarded Atletico a penalty after a VAR review confirmed a clear foul by Tanguy Nianzou.
Antoine Griezmann stepped up confidently and converted the penalty into the bottom-left corner in the 64th minute, giving Atletico the lead.
Securing the Win
Atletico doubled their advantage in the 77th minute thanks to a brilliant play from Marcos Llorente, who delivered a precise pass for substitute Memphis Depay to finish easily from close range.
Near the end, Griezmann missed a golden opportunity to extend the lead further. However, he redeemed himself in the 90th minute with a composed finish from just inside the box, sealing the game for Atletico.
Current Standings
This latest victory keeps Diego Simeone’s men in fourth place in LaLiga, maintaining their unbeaten home record this season. Meanwhile, Sevilla’s defeat marks their third consecutive loss, leaving them in 11th position in the league table.
