A Move Back to His Roots
Spain’s Aymeric Laporte has left Al-Nassr to make a return to his formative club, Athletic Club, for the current season.
In recent comments, Laporte shared his thoughts on the transfer, stating, “There was a proposal, indeed. Interest was shown from not just Olympique de Marseille but also several other teams. I had the desire to move closer to home, where my father and family are.”
A Longing for Bilbao
He further elaborated, “I felt a strong pull to reconnect with my origins. This longing played a significant role in my decision to return to Bilbao.”
Reflections on His Time in Saudi Arabia
Discussing his experience in the Saudi Pro League, Laporte mentioned, “I’ve never disclosed this before, but I realized during my first year in Saudi Arabia that it didn’t align with what I was searching for.”
He added, “I communicated with the club right from the onset, and they encouraged me to be patient. However, circumstances remained unchanged; I encountered some challenges there, but nothing that couldn’t be managed.”
He concluded by stating, “Ultimately, we agreed to not pursue a third year. The family aspect also weighed heavily in my decision-making.”
