Rogers Needs to Overcome Criticism, Says Emery
Villa Boss Backs Young Player
Aston Villa’s head coach, Unai Emery, has urged Morgan Rogers to regain his form and disregard the critical remarks from fans. This comes after another challenging performance from the young England international, even though Villa secured a narrow 1-0 victory in their Europa League match against Bologna.
Struggles on the Field
In this match, Rogers faced difficulties, managing to complete only 10 out of 24 passes, which equates to a passing accuracy of just under 42%. His ability to win duels was similarly unimpressive, as he claimed victory in only four out of the twelve duels he engaged in.
The Villa supporters expressed their frustration with some ironic cheers directed at Rogers after he managed to complete a pass late in the game, highlighting the tension in his performance amidst the team’s first win of the season.
Emery’s Take on Fan Reactions
Emery addressed the fans’ reactions, explaining, “The supporters have a right to express their feelings. We need to accept that sometimes they will applaud us and other times not.”
He emphasized the importance of allowing younger players like Rogers time to develop. “I kept him on the pitch because I wanted to observe his reaction to the situation. He handled it well,” Emery added.
The coach recognized that Rogers struggled during the match and failed to deliver the key plays needed in the attacking phase. However, he praised Rogers for his commitment to his responsibilities on the field, stating, “He worked hard for the team, but he needs to become more effective offensively. Experiences like this, where the crowd may not be pleased, are crucial for his growth.”
