Emery Seeks Resolution for Loaned Player Elliott

Aston Villa Manager’s Statement

Aston Villa’s head coach, Unai Emery, has expressed his intention to find a resolution regarding the status of Harvey Elliott, who is currently on loan from Liverpool. Emery indicated that there is uncertainty surrounding whether Elliott will join Villa on a permanent basis.

Elliott has made a limited impact since joining Villa Park on transfer deadline day, featuring in only seven matches. According to the terms of his loan, Villa would need to pay £35 million if he plays in ten Premier League games.

Current Team Situation and Player’s Recent Performance

The 22-year-old midfielder, who was instrumental in England Under-21s’ victory at the European Championship last summer, was not included in the squad for the upcoming Europa League match against Basel. His last appearance was as a substitute against Feyenoord on October 2.

“We are in discussions concerning his situation. He is currently unavailable to us,” said Emery during a press conference concerning Elliott’s status.

Need for Consistency in Elliott’s Playtime

Emery commented on the need for a decision regarding Elliott’s situation, emphasizing that while the player is training effectively, there are circumstances affecting his contributions to the team.

“Firstly, I must assess his position. While he is on loan and training with us, he is not guaranteed to become a permanent fixture in our lineup,” Emery noted.

He hopes to find an outcome that benefits both the player and the club, indicating a desire for Elliott to play more consistently, whether that is with Aston Villa or elsewhere, while acknowledging the constraints imposed by FIFA rules regarding player appearances in a single season.

Elliott’s Limited Premier League Experience

Last season, Elliott made just two starts for Liverpool as the club secured the league title. The restrictions regarding his participation this season mean he cannot transfer to another team, having already played for both Villa and Liverpool.
