Senegalese winger Assane Diao expressed his delight after returning to action for Como 1907 following several weeks out with injury.
Diao made his long-awaited comeback in Como’s Serie A clash against Parma, entering as a second-half substitute to loud cheers from the fans.
His return marked a key moment for both player and club as he looks to regain his form.
“When I got injured, it was very difficult,” Diao said. “I didn’t know when I would return, but I set myself a challenge to do even better than last year. Now I feel more motivated than ever.”
The young forward admitted that the recovery process tested his patience but said the support from teammates and staff helped him stay focused. His energy and pace have been missed in recent weeks, and his return adds much-needed depth to Cesc Fàbregas’ squad.
Fàbregas, now head coach of Como, praised Diao’s mentality and determination. “I believe in him because he believes in himself,” the Spaniard said.
“He has the mindset to become the player he was before. This return is just the first step, and he must keep working hard.”
The coach added that the club will manage his minutes carefully as he rebuilds fitness for the remainder of the campaign.
Diao’s comeback has lifted morale among Como supporters, who view the Senegalese international as a vital attacking option.
His pace, direct play, and work ethic could prove crucial as Como aim to climb the Serie A table.
“I’m grateful to everyone who supported me,” Diao said. “Now I want to help the team win and enjoy football again.”
