Arsenals Zubimendi Questions Real Madrids Need for His Talents

Zubimendi Discusses Real Madrid and Teammate’s Injury Concerns

Close Calls with Major Clubs

Zubimendi nearly signed with prominent clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona while he was still with Real Sociedad before ultimately moving to Arsenal last summer.

Thoughts on Real Madrid’s Needs

When questioned about whether he believes Real Madrid requires his services at the Santiago Bernabéu, Zubimendi was straightforward in his response.

“I don’t think so. Real Madrid has more than enough players to succeed, so no, not at all…” he stated last night on El Larguero, following Arsenal’s victory over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semifinal second leg.

Addressing Teammate Mikel Merino’s Injury

Zubimendi also spoke on a matter of concern among Spanish fans: the injury of his teammate Mikel Merino, an issue that could potentially impact his chances of participating in the upcoming summer World Cup.

“He’s in pain. He’s a very dedicated professional who takes care of himself and always prioritizes what’s best for the club. I know he’s the one affected the most, but the impact of his injury on the team is considerable,” Zubimendi commented regarding Merino’s foot injury.

“He appears to be okay, but I understand that it’s more challenging than it seems once everyone returns home. I know he’ll do everything possible to make it to the national team, and if he can’t, it’ll be a real disappointment. We’ll have to wait and see.”

Arsenal’s Champions League Aspirations

On Arsenal finishing at the top of their Champions League group, Zubimendi expressed that the team’s goals go beyond just qualifying.

“It’s about winning the competition. Qualifying is fantastic, but we’ll see who ultimately takes the trophy. Adapting to the league has been positive, but I’ve found the matches to be quite intense, as opponents apply significant pressure and the overall quality is exceptionally high.”

“Spanish teams should never be underestimated. Barcelona reached the semifinals last year, Real Madrid is always a formidable opponent, and Atlético has numerous quality players. The Champions League is unpredictable, and anything can happen.”
