Arsenal Scout Discusses Decision on Thiago Almada
Insight from Jonathan Vidalle
Arsenal’s scout Jonathan Vidalle has shared insights on his recommendation against pursuing a transfer for Thiago Almada.
The Argentine player, who is currently with Atletico Madrid, celebrated a World Cup victory during his tenure at Atlanta United.
Concerns Over Physicality
Despite receiving 56 favorable assessments regarding the midfielder’s talent, Arsenal ultimately decided not to sign him due to concerns about his physical attributes.
Vidalle elaborated on his views in an interview with ADN Deportes: “I have consistently advocated for Thiago Almada because I admire his abilities, but he has a physical disadvantage, particularly when it comes to competing in the Premier League.”
He further noted, “I’ve compiled 56 reports on him, having followed his career since he was playing in the eighth division, during his U-15 days.”
Evolution of Scouting Practices
Discussing current trends in scouting young talent, Vidalle highlighted the increasing depth of analysis: “At the U20 World Cup held in Argentina, two of my colleagues produced an extensive eight or nine-page dossier on Declan Rice.”
He remarked on the thoroughness of modern scouting: “The detail was so extensive that it resembled an intelligence report, covering age progression, mental attributes, and variations in concentration throughout matches. Our approach to scouting has become incredibly detailed.”
