Antwerp’s Overmars Reveals Aston Villa Negotiations for Lammens Before Manchester United Intervened

Royal Antwerp’s Marc Overmars Reflects on Senne Lammens Transfer Saga
Antwerp Prepared to Part with Lammens
Marc Overmars, the football director of Royal Antwerp, revealed that the club was prepared to let Senne Lammens go to Aston Villa prior to his eventual transfer to Manchester United.
Negotiations Involving Multiple Parties
Overmars acknowledged that all three teams were in discussions leading up to the transfer deadline, with Emiliano Martinez also playing a role in the back-and-forth negotiations.
Overmars’ Comments on Deadline Day
He shared, “When Manchester United expressed interest in Senne Lammens, we made it clear that we aren’t like Brighton or Brentford, who require lengthy negotiations. We needed to act swiftly.”
“Initially, we were at a disadvantage on deadline day with Manchester United. We had struck a deal with Aston Villa, but Martinez’s departure was still pending, and Senne wasn’t keen on the move. Only then did Manchester United submit their first offer.”
He further noted, “Their proposal was less favorable than Aston Villa’s. Eventually, four hours later, we managed to finalize an agreement.”
