Ange Postecoglou firmly stated that he feels no need to “prove anything to anyone” as he steps into his role as the new manager of Nottingham Forest. His appointment was confirmed on Tuesday, coming after the club made the decision to part ways with Nuno Espirito Santo, who had been in charge for 21 months.

Postecoglou’s return to management comes just three months after his exit from Tottenham Hotspur, where he faced significant challenges during a difficult Premier League season, ending up in 17th place. Despite the struggles, he did secure a major victory by leading Spurs to their first major trophy in 17 years, winning the Europa League title last May.

I may have to [win a trophy this season] to have a second year here.” He expressed his consistent desire to win trophies and emphasized that it reflects his career aspirations.

Postecoglou acknowledged that he did not anticipate leaving Tottenham shortly after a trophy win, yet he feels confident that his contributions were valued during his tenure there. “There is no Spurs supporter I come across now who doesn’t want to hug me and take me home for dinner,” he noted. He added that his aim is to leave a lasting mark at every club he manages.

Throughout his final period at Tottenham, Postecoglou faced considerable pressure, which was compounded by the expectations that came from reaching the Europa League final. After the victory against Bodo/Glimt in May, he was defensive when faced with inquiries about whether the title would reflect a successful season for Spurs.

Currently, Postecoglou appears relaxed as he embarks on this new chapter at Nottingham Forest, even joking about how his recent birthday celebrations were disrupted by contract negotiations with the club.
