Former AC Milan Captain Urges Napoli to Strengthen Squad in January
Massimo Ambrosini, the ex-captain of AC Milan, emphasizes that Serie A frontrunners Napoli should consider making acquisitions during the upcoming January transfer window.
Injury Concerns for Napoli
Although currently at the top of the league, Napoli is facing challenges due to the absence of key midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, who is sidelined until April with a serious hamstring issue.
Additional Challenges Ahead
Ambrosini warns that Napoli’s situation could worsen with the impending departure of their Cameroon midfielder, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Essential Midfield Reinforcement Required
In an interview with Cronache di Spogliatoio, he stated,
I believe Napoli must make some adjustments in January and acquire an additional midfielder. With Anguissa heading to the Africa Cup of Nations and De Bruyne unavailable, they require a quality player — someone who is less mobile yet possesses technical skills.
He further elaborated,
While I can’t specify a particular player, it’s clear that Napoli needs someone with technical prowess. When they encounter defenses that are more compact and without De Bruyne’s influence, they require a player who can navigate those tight spaces and foster combination play. The absence of the Belgian has made things tougher for Napoli.
