Egypt’s Al Ahly are eyeing Portuguese coach Bruno Lage as their next manager following the dismissal of Jose Riveiro.
The 12-time CAF Champions League winners have reportedly placed a €4.8 million-per-year deal on the table.
However, Lage is understood to be pushing for closer to €5 million before signing.
The 49 year old previously managed English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, Brazilian outfit Botafogo, and most recently Benfica, where he was replaced by Jose Mourinho.
Al Ahly are the most successful club in Africa with 45 domestic league titles and unrivaled dominance on the content.
Their last FIFA Club World Cup outing saw them face Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami, Palmeiras, and FC Porto.
They failed to progress beyond the group stage of the competition.
With negotiations ongoing, former defender Emad El Nahhas is serving as caretaker boss as the Cairo-based giants push to bring Lage on board.
