Al Ahly have reportedly finalized the appointment of Danish tactician Thomas Thomasberg as their new head coach.
The club expects to officially unveil him after Monday night’s Cairo derby against rivals Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League.
According to reports, an Al Ahly delegation led by Osama Hilal, Director of Contracting and Scouting, traveled to Europe in recent days to seal the deal.
The trip ended successfully as both parties agreed on all financial and administrative terms, and they signed the official contract on Saturday.
Thomasberg, who previously coached FC Midtjylland, brings vast experience and familiarity with Egyptian football through his past working relationship with midfielder Emam Ashour, a connection expected to help his smooth integration into the squad.
His arrival marks the end of a brief interim spell under Emad El-Nahhas, who stepped in following the sacking of Spanish boss José Ribeiro after a loss to Pyramids on August 30.
El-Nahhas will remain on the touchline for the derby, before Thomasberg takes over officially ahead of Al Ahly’s clash with Kahrabaa Ismailia on October 4.
