Ajax Pursues Loan Acquisition of Manchester Uniteds Playmaker Manuel Ugarte
Ugarte’s Struggles at Manchester United
Ugarte, a 24-year-old Uruguayan midfielder, made headlines with his €50 million transfer from Paris Saint-Germain to Manchester United in 2024. However, his tenure with the Red Devils has not been impactful, as he has only started in seven matches this season, contributing to a total of 16 appearances across all competitions.
Ajax’s Interest
As reported by Voetbal International journalist Tim van Duijn, Ajax is keen on acquiring Ugarte to bolster their midfield. The Dutch club is actively seeking a defensive midfielder following Jordan Henderson’s exit during the summer, along with the recent termination of Liverpool midfielder James McConnell’s loan.
Ugarte is said to be contemplating a move to Ajax, particularly with the FIFA World Cup approaching in five months, making regular playing time a priority.
Alternative Options for Ajax
Ajax also has its sights set on former fan favorite Daley Blind. The versatile 35-year-old is currently plying his trade with Girona in LaLiga, but his contract is set to expire at the end of the current season.
Blind, who has made 333 appearances for Ajax, could offer valuable mentorship to the younger players in the squad. It is also anticipated that he would transition into a coaching role at Ajax once he hangs up his boots.
