Egyptian giants Al Ahly and Zamalek have been hit with heavy fines for the unruly behavior of their supporters during the recently concluded Egyptian Super Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) confirmed that both clubs will pay LE 100,000 each after their fans were found guilty of making offensive chants during the competition.
In addition to that, Zamalek received another LE 100,000 fine for abusive chants from their supporters in the semi-final clash against Pyramids FC.
The disciplinary measures followed a heated tournament that saw defending champions Al Ahly clinch their fifth straight Super Cup title with a 2-0 win over Zamalek in the final.
Ceramica Cleopatra took third place earlier that day after overcoming Pyramids FC 2-1.
The EFA also announced fines of LE 50,000 each for Zamalek’s Brazilian winger Juan Alvina and Ahly’s Ahmed “Zizo” Sayed for ignoring official protocol during the medal presentation.
Both players failed to greet tournament officials at the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Pyramids FC head coach Krunoslav Jurcic was suspended for one match and fined LE 10,000 following his dismissal in the third-place match against Ceramica Cleopatra.
The EFA stated that these sanctions are part of efforts to maintain discipline and uphold sportsmanship in Egyptian football.
