Claudio Pasqualin, the agent of renowned Italian footballer Alessandro del Piero, has shared anecdotes about the attempts made by Barcelona and Manchester United to lure Del Piero away from Juventus.

Despite the interest from these two prominent clubs, Del Piero chose to continue his journey with Juventus before eventually making a move to Sydney FC in Australia’s A-League towards the latter part of his career.

Resistance from a Future Star

Pasqualin highlighted to Tuttosport the fact that, during his prime, Del Piero turned down lucrative offers from these football powerhouses.

He noted: “Barcelona showed interest, but ultimately shifted their focus to Rivaldo. Manchester United also sought him out; Sir Alex Ferguson held Del Piero in high regard. However, it’s important to emphasize that Alex was never uncertain—his primary goal was to have Del Piero remain at Juventus at all costs.”

Consequently, Pasqualin stated that their attention was consistently directed towards negotiating a contract renewal, and serious talks with other elite clubs never truly commenced.

Pasqualin humorously recounted, “Dr. Umberto Agnelli would often remark that Alex was earning too much money (laughs). In truth, it’s worth noting that our negotiations were also influenced by the timing—many clubs across Europe were eager to acquire Del Piero, in addition to recognizing his exceptional skill.”
