African Football Icons To Assist In CAF Interclub Group Stage Draw

African football icons Alexandre Song and Christopher Katongo will play key roles as Draw Assistants for the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup group stage draws scheduled for Monday, November 3, 2025.

The highly anticipated event is set to begin at 13:00 local time (11:00 GMT) with the Confederation Cup draw, followed by the Champions League draw at 14:00 local time (12:00 GMT).

The draws will determine the group pairings for the 16 qualified clubs in each competition — setting the stage for another thrilling chapter of continental club football.

Alexandre Song, who featured for the Indomitable Lions in multiple AFCON tournaments and two FIFA World Cups, enjoyed an illustrious club career that included stints with Arsenal and Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Christopher Katongo, Zambia’s 2012 AFCON-winning captain, is celebrated for his leadership and goal-scoring prowess during a glittering career that spanned South Africa, Denmark, and China.

Among the clubs that have already secured their spots in the group stage are Zamalek (Egypt), USM Alger (Algeria), Wydad Casablanca (Morocco), CR Belouizdad (Algeria), Kaizer Chiefs (South Africa), Stellenbosch (South Africa), Azam FC (Tanzania), and Singida Black Stars (Tanzania).

The final qualification round across Africa wraps up this weekend, after which the full lineup of 16 teams for both competitions will be confirmed.

The group stage is expected to kick off in November, marking another milestone in the 2025/26 CAF interclub season.
