South African political party ActionSA has called for the resignation of SAFA President Danny Jordaan following FIFA’s decision to dock Bafana Bafana three points in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The sanction came after South Africa fielded ineligible midfielder Teboho Mokoena in their March 21 clash against Lesotho, which FIFA has now ruled a 3-0 forfeit.
In addition to losing points, FIFA fined SAFA £9,000, but the association has already announced plans to appeal the punishment.
The setback dropped Bafana to second place in Group C, handing Benin the advantage in the race for qualification.
ActionSA insists Jordaan and team manager Vincent Tseka must take responsibility for what they describe as a “catastrophic, careless error.”
“ActionSA calls for the immediate resignation of SAFA President Danny Jordaan and the dismissal of the official directly responsible,” the party said in a statement.
Sports Minister Zizi Kodwa also expressed embarrassment over the situation, while pressure continues to mount on SAFA leadership.
With only two games left, an away tie against Zimbabwe and a home fixture against Rwanda, South Africa’s qualification hopes are now out of their own hands.
The error has revived the chances of Nigeria and Rwanda, who sit just three points behind, while Benin face decisive encounters against both in October.
Only the group winners are guaranteed a spot at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
