Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco defender Achraf Hakimi has revealed that winning the 2025 African Player of the Year award has become one of his greatest ambitions as he continues to excel for both club and country.
Speaking ahead of PSG’s UEFA Champions League showdown with Bayern Munich, the 27-year-old admitted that while the thought once seemed distant, it’s now a dream he truly believes in.
“I don’t think about it constantly, but now that I have a chance to win it, it’s become a dream,” said Hakimi.
“I’ve worked very hard to win titles, both team and individual, and I think I deserve it after the season I’ve had.”
Hakimi was a driving force in PSG’s treble triumph last season and continued it with a strong start to this campaign, blending defensive composure with attacking flair.
His performances have earned him widespread praise and a spot among the top contenders for the continental honour, set to be announced on November 19.
The Moroccan full-back faces stiff competition from a list of elite nominees, including Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray), André-Frank Zambo Anguissa (Napoli), Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund), and Fiston Mayele (Pyramids FC), among others.
