17-year-old Referee To Officiate Ghana Premier League Fixture

Ghana’s bold investment in youth development continues to make headlines as 17-year-old referee Adongo Angelous Akurugu has been appointed to officiate the Premier League Matchday 5 encounter between Nations FC and Asante Kotoko on Saturday, October 11, 2025.

Akurugu, who is a student of Navrongo Senior High School, is one of the most promising talents to emerge from the Catch Them Young Refereeing Initiative, a program launched by the Ghana Football Association to train young referees across the country.

He officiated during the CAF African Schools Football Championship final between Senegal and Tanzania earlier this year which won him continental admiration.

He will be assisted by Joseph Teye Awasabi and Haruna Yakubu, with Kingsford Oteng Yeboah as fourth official.

Tasembedo Ousmane serves as Match Commissioner, while Christine Enyonam Zigah, Chairperson of the GFA Referees Appointment Committee, will assess the match.
