Matarazzo Takes Helm at Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad has officially confirmed the appointment of the American coach, effective until the conclusion of the current season. The announcement was made by the Basque club on Saturday evening.

Coaching Background

Matarazzo previously held a coaching position in Swabia, Germany, where he managed from 2019 to 2022. After a hiatus, he took over at Sinsheim but was let go in November 2024.

Since then, the 48-year-old coach has been on the lookout for a new opportunity, which has now come in the form of the role at Real Sociedad.

Current Team Situation

Last season saw Real Sociedad reaching the quarterfinals of the Europa League. However, this season has not started well; the team found itself precariously close to the relegation zone at one point, sitting just one point above it. Matarazzo is now tasked with revitalizing the squad, which currently occupies the sixteenth position in the league standings.
